Everything that changed in the app and the dashboard.
Recording: quality and easy saving
- NewA recording quality setting — Standard, High, or Max — plus a 60 fps option for smoother video. Higher quality means sharper text and detail (and a bigger file).
- ImprovedThe Save button now opens the normal macOS dialog, so you pick the folder and file name yourself.
- FixedMP4 no longer fails on recordings with an odd-sized area — conversion works for any selection.
- ImprovedThe recorder bar fades away smoothly after you save or upload.
Screen recording got cleaner
- NewAfter you stop recording you can pick the format — WebM, MP4, or GIF — for both download and the share link. MP4 plays everywhere, including Safari and iPhone.
- ImprovedThe recording overlay is cleaner: we dropped the extra label and button — select an area and press Enter, just like a screenshot.
- FixedRemoved the yellow cursor highlight that lagged behind the real cursor in recordings. Now the frame shows just the cursor itself.
Cabinet: domains & page branding
- NewYou can set a custom title and description for the screenshot page — they show in the browser tab and the link preview (social, messengers).
- ImprovedYour custom domain now shows a live connection status, so you can see at a glance that DNS and the certificate work.
- ImprovedUploading a logo or favicon is tidier now — drag-and-drop with an inline preview.
A clear first run
- NewAfter install, the app walks you through setup step by step — screen-recording permission and signing in, with hints on where to click. Capture unlocks once everything is ready, so no more black frames or “why isn’t it working”.
- ImprovedOn first launch the interface language follows your system language (Russian, Ukrainian, or English).
Opens without warnings
- ImprovedThe app is now signed with an Apple Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple. On macOS it downloads and opens right away — no more “damaged” or “unidentified developer” dialog. Just double-click.
Updates you can watch from the menu bar
- ImprovedThe post-capture preview is now smaller and tidier, with a soft shadow under the card.
- ImprovedUpdates download in the background and the progress shows right next to the menu-bar icon — no extra windows. When it is ready, a notification installs and relaunches in one click.
- ImprovedThe tray icon shows a badge when an update is available.
- FixedWhen un-pinned, the preview lingers for a moment, then slides down off the screen — no more vanishing at once.
Capture across multiple monitors
- NewWhen you grab an area the selection appears on every monitor: the mode panel sits on the screen your cursor is on, the rest show a “drag to select” hint. Capture on any screen; the panel follows the cursor.
- ImprovedArea screenshots capture on Enter — the selection stays on screen and is remembered, so you can nudge it before you shoot.
- ImprovedThe pinned preview is now compact and tucks to the edge of the screen; you can publish it to the cloud or un-pin it, and it closes with a clearly visible ✕.
Drag-out, preview on the active screen, auto-update
- NewDrag a screenshot straight out of the preview into any app — Finder, a chat, an editor.
- ImprovedThe post-capture preview opens on the monitor your cursor is on and slides along with you between screens.
- ImprovedThe “Launch at login” item is gone from the tray menu — it stays in Settings.
Timer and scrolling capture removed
- ImprovedTimer and scrolling-capture modes are temporarily removed from the tray menu and the mode panel, pending rework. The other modes (area, screen, window, text, recording) work as before.
Scrolling capture: focus returns to your window
- FixedDuring scrolling capture the app hands focus back to your window (it becomes an agent), so the page scrolls again while it stitches.
Reliable updates
- FixedAfter an update the app opens itself again: the relaunch now waits for the old copy to fully quit before starting the new one (before it could close and not reopen).
- ImprovedThe updater keeps a log (app logs → update.log) and cleans up leftover temporary copies on launch.
Scrolling capture scrolls again
- FixedIn scrolling-capture mode the control bar no longer steals focus from your window — the page scrolls again and frames stitch together.
App languages, and a card fix
- NewThe app settings now have a language picker: Russian, Ukrainian, English. The tray menu, notifications, the capture card, the editor and every other window switch together.
- FixedThe card after a capture no longer stays black, nor hangs on screen after an upload.
Security and sign-in
- FixedFiles are always served with a safe type, so an uploaded HTML or SVG can no longer run on our domain.
- FixedThe storage limit is enforced atomically, so parallel uploads can no longer slip past it.
- FixedFile links use a longer id, and the view counter no longer trusts spoofable client headers.
- ImprovedA clear message on the home page when sign-in fails. Blocking an account now takes effect immediately, not at session end.
- FixedApp updates download over HTTPS only, with the file name sanitised.
The app updates itself
- NewEvery six hours the app asks the cloud for a newer build. When there is one, a dot appears on the tray icon and “Update to …” becomes the first menu item.
- NewOne click downloads it with a progress readout, installs it over the current version and relaunches the app.
- ImprovedThe tray menu and the About window can check for updates on demand.
Downloads on the site, and cloud wording
- NewThe home page now has download buttons for macOS and Windows, with the version and file size.
- ImprovedReferences to a NAS are gone from the app and the dashboard — files simply live in the cloud.
The product moved to a new name
- NewThe app and the dashboard are now called Shotkeep, and they live at shotkeep.app.
- ImprovedThe dashboard address is a setting now (cloudUrl), so changing the domain needs no rebuild.
- ImprovedPairing links work with both the new shotkeep:// and the old shotnas:// scheme.
- FixedSettings and history are carried over from the previous app folder automatically.
The Shotkeep dashboard
- NewAn upload gallery with search, tags and paging.
- NewSearch inside images: the app recognises each screenshot on upload, so the dashboard searches content and not just file names.
- NewTags: created right on the card, they filter the gallery and show up in the sidebar with counts.
- NewCompare two screenshots — pixel differences, a curtain wipe, or side by side.
- NewYour own domain on links, with DNS instructions and a redirect for the domain root.
- NewBranding for the public page: your logo, your name, or nothing at all.
- NewAn admin area: who is in the system, how much space they use, plans, limits and blocking.
- NewThree interface languages (English, русский, українська) and a dark theme.
- ImprovedViews count unique visitors instead of page reloads.
- ImprovedLink pages and files are hidden from search engines: noindex in the response and in robots.txt.
